Waterton Hamlet
Waterton was first established as a park in 1895. The Waterton Lakes area was established as a National Park in 1930. In 1932, Waterton Lakes National Park and the U.S. Glacier National Park were united to form the world's first International Peace Park. In 1995, the International Peace Park was designated as a UNESCO World Herald Site.
Surprisingly, background information about Waterton Hamlet is quite scarce. I have learned that the Hamlet's permanent population was only 88 people in 2011. In hindsight, this shouldn't have come as a surprise, given the limited number of hotels and restaurants. There are also a few retail shops and a marina. Obviously more people live there during the summer.
The astonishing scenery can't be missed from anywhere in the Hamlet. It is pretty impressive, regardless of which street visitors are on. The lake beach front offers breath taking views, and there is a pleasant walk for visitors.
