Prince of Wales Hotel
The Prince of Wales Hotel is located in Waterton, AB, in the heart of Waterton Lakes National Park. Built by the Great Northern Railway, construction of the hotel began in 1926, and was completed in 1927. The original goal was to lure American tourists north of the border during the prohibition era. Since Waterton is right on the international boundary, this would have been fairly easy.
Views from the hotel are spectacular. On one side, visitors have incredible mountain views. Hotel guests in the main dining room have an incredible view down Waterton Lake, toward the US border and Montana.
The Hotel is presently owned by a Montana-based company called Glacier Park Inc. The Government of Canada designated the hotel as a National Historic Site in 1993.
