Manitoba Legislature
When we started planning what we wanted to do on our Winnipeg road trip, one of our neighbours suggested that we take a tour of the Manitoba Legislature. He told us that most of the stone for the building was quarried locally and was quite different from other buildings.
The current building is the third legislative building. The first building was located at another site but burned down in 1873. The second building was built on the current site and was in use from 1884 to 1920. Construction on the current building began in 1913 and was completed in 1920. My father grew up in Winnipeg, and I'm sure that he would have enjoyed watching the construction.
Golden Boy is on the top of the dome. He was removed in 2003, for a full restoration, then returned to his current place.
